Okay, confession time: I’m addicted to cold brew. I know, so 2016, it’s just “cold coffee” but.. NO! Did you just nod in agreement?!
Come on, I saw it, no I felt it in my dark little heart!
COLD BREW IS NOT JUST COLD COFFEE. Starbucks wants you to think that – in fact they use coffee syrup most of the time – but it’s so much more elavated than that.
Here is a quick and easy guide for homemade cold brew, spring is here and SUMMER IS COMING. I recently taught myself how to sew and I’m making skirts and shorts and stuff to prepare myself for summer, hopefully we can at least go camping, but it might be a balcony summer, the way things look at the moment. But that doesn’t matter if you have cold brew (and a good book) – I know I sound like I’m advertising something, but the sad truth is, apart from cold peppermint tea this is my favourite drink when it’s warm.
Since today is a bit of a grey day prepare it today and drink it tomorrow (just checked the weather for tomorrow and it looks even more sad, but… do it anyway!)

You will need:
- a large jar, between a litre and 1.5 litres
- 65 g of your favourite coffee (ground) for a litre, 100g for 1.5 litres
- 1 -1.4 litres of cold (!) and ideally filtered water
nic nacs of your choice, we usually use 15ml of cream and some sugar free vanilla syrup – hashtag ketolife
The water – and I can’t stress this enough- can’t be warm. Cold brew is not just cooled down coffee. It’s brewed cold. And this is exactly what you’re going to do.
Fill your jar with water until it’s almost full. Add your coffee. Close the lid and shake. Leave at a cold and dark place for 15 (mild) or 24 (strong) hours.
Filter through a coffee filter or a cloth.
Yeah, that’s it. Can you taste the difference? Because of the cold brew the coffee releases the flavour much slower and therefore is a lot less bitter, more mellow.

I mean… look at it. Just look at it.
I hope I got you hooked.
Keep them coming!
